Tax Court Must Be Improved

en.vivanews.com, Tuesday 27 April 2010

A task force for the eradication of law mafia revealed the weaknesses of tax court especially on appeals and suits.

"There are holes [in the tax court] such as the low number of judges, poor governance and case handling. Everything must be improved," said secretary of the task force Denny Indrayana today, April 27.

Deputy Attorney General, who is also member of the task force, Darmono said that the task force will follow up court processes which have been allegedly manipulated by tax mafia.

"We're there to have closer observation," Darmono claimed.

The task force has collected countless data on the implementation of tax court including cases under processes.

Denny acknowledged that reports and queries have been submitted questioning on why 61 percent of tax payers win against the Directorate General of Taxes in the court.

Tax court officials also notified that more than 50 percent of representatives from the Customs and Excise Agency never attended the tax court sessions.
